You know what? I forgot to do today's update until just now, half past nine at night. As way of compensation, I offer that I did in fact beat PowerSlide expert championship in the Orc, which is an agressive little car for all that most variants are pink. Speaking of pink, I've got inks of the first three days of Chapter 2. I may have to tune down the detail a little, but hey, it's good while it lasts. Enjoy the (belated) update! HISTORY Lorenzo de' Medici (1449-1492) was a ruler in Florence, one of the states of Italy. (Italy was, from medieval times until quite recently, a collection of independant states.) Described as an able but autocratic ruler, and put down an uprising by certain malcontents in 1478, during which troubles his brother was killed. (This uprising was in part fostered by Pope Sixtus IV, who also built the Sistine Chapel.) It is said that he was a distinguished lyric poet and a great patron of the arts; in fact, Machiavelli said that he was 'the greatest patron of literature and art that any prince has ever been'. (This information sourced from the Chambers Dictionary of World History.) "She-knight"... I like that turn of phrase. Although exceptions exist (notably St. Joan of Arc, who led a French army in a suit of white armour), women generally didn't join battle in medieval times. Just for reference, although MindMistress is actually wearing advanced exo-armour (armour that not only offers protection, but amplifies the wearer's strength and provides other services) instead of plate mail, anyone who could afford that much metal in a fine suit would be incredibly rich (ie. a peer of some kind) and therefore deserving of some measure of respect. A similar principle holds true today, although that has more to do with the fact that exo-armour is currently beyond human engineering capabilities altogether. ARTIST Al Schroeder of MindMistress sends us this piece. MindMistress is a superhero whose talents lie in the realm of the mind rather than the body; her super-high-tech equipment (all designed herself) is just one of her advantages. The comic is frequently thought-provoking and is one of my favourites. You'll notice that Lorenzo looms over her in this piece. That's my fault; I should have established his true height early on, then MindMistress would be at least as tall as he. Well, she did just 'catwalk' into another reality; perhaps scale is different betwixt universes. (In case you hadn't guessed, this was recieved before Lorenzo found his chain bodkin, a long time ago. Since then, the art of both Al and myself has improved. No offense, Al; I always thought your art was pleasing along certain European lines.) |
